VIDOVDANSKA PROSLAVA

Dragi parohijani,
Pozivamo vas da 28. juna dodjete u nasu crkvu gdje ce biti odrzana Vidovdanska proslava, i da vasim prisutstvom uvecate nase slavlje.Na proslavu smo pozvali i starjesinu manastira Resaca (koji se nalazi na sjeveru Dzordzije), jeromonaha Nazarija, koji ce zajedno sa nasim svestenikom da sluzi Svetu Liturgiju u 10.sati ujutro. Jeromonah Nazarije ce da donese iz manastira u nasu crkvu cudotvornu i mirotocivu ikonu Presvete Bogorodice. Poslije svete Liturgije bice pripremljen i posan rucak od strane Kola srpskih sestara. Nadamo se da cete doci da se zajedno pomolimo nasem Gospodu i Spasitelju Isusu Hristu, Presvetoj Bogorodici i velikomuceniku Kosovskom knezu Lazaru za nasu stradalnu bracu i sestre na Kosovu i Metohiji.

VIDOVDAN'S CELEBRATION

Dear parishioners,
Please join us for the Vidovdan’s celebration on June 28th. The celebration will be organized at our Church and we hope you will honor us with your presence. We have invited the iguman of the monastery Archimandrite Nazarios (located on the North of Georgia), who will serve the Holy Liturgy together with our Priest at 10:00 PM on the 29th. Archimandrite Nazarios will bring the miraculous icon of our Blessed Lady. After the Divine Liturgy we will serve the sordid lunch prepared by our Kolo Srpskih Sestara. We are inviting you to come to pray all together to our Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ and our Holy Great Martyr Prince Lazar for our brothers and sisters at Kosovo and Metohija.

Kolo Sestre Lunch/Rucak - June 28th, 2009 - VIDOVDAN

U prolecnim danima ove godine Kolo je dobilo tri nove clanice, sestre: Jelku Wiebe, Dalibvorku Kapetanovic i Nadu
Misic. Zelimo im srdacnu dobrodoslicu.
- Sredinom maja organizovana je i odrzana uspesna Garage Sale u gostoljubivom domu sestre Mirke Sundic uz asistenciju predsednice i potpredsednice Kola i ucesce donatora,porodica: Sundic, Saulnier, Loncaric-Kessler, Nincic, Todorovic, Bencik, Lozo, Marinkovic, Brocett,Vujic Vlada i Radina, Surla, a uz svesrdnu pomoc u pripremi i prodaji stvari sestara: Mirke, Milane, Fime, Seke, Bebuske, Gordane, Jovanke. Ostvarena je dobit u iznosu od $601 koji su namenjeni za humane i plemenite zadatke Kola da pomogne nasoj crkvi u izvrsavanju njene misije od neprocenjive vrednosti za srpski narod koji bivstvuje na ovom podrucju.
U nedelju.juna 28, na veliki Praznik Vidovdan, Kolo ce pripremiti rucak, a u crkvenoj porti -BAZAR- dobrotvornu prodaju ukrasnih predmeta. Prilozi za -Bazar se primaju sa zahvalnoscu.

Zahvaljujemo se Miroslavu Misicu sto je napravio i donirao kobasice za turnir u ping pongu.

ST. SAVA CAMP AT SHADELAND, PENNSYLVANIA
This year’s camp season will begin on July 12 and close with the annual Diocesan Day celebration on Sunday, August 2, beginning with the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and followed with traditional program, featuring performances by the campers of Tambura Week, and picnic.
We welcome children from around the Eastern Diocese and beyond to join us this year at St. Sava Camp, Shadeland. Our camping season will begin on Sunday, July 12th and close with the celebration of Diocesan Day on Sunday, August 2.

Свети цар Константин и царица Јелена

Родитељи Константинови беху цар Констанције Флор и царица Јелена. Флор имаше још деце од друге жене, но од Јелене имаше само овога Константина. Три велике борбе имаше Константин кад се зацари: једну против Максенција, тиранина у Риму, другу против Скита на Дунаву и трећу против Византинаца. Пред борбу са Максенцијем, када Константин беше у великој бризи и сумњи у успех свој, јави му се на дану пресјајан крст на небу, сав окићен звездама, и на крсту стајаше написано: овим побеђуј. Цар удивљен нареди да се скује велики крст, сличан ономе што му се јави, и да се носи пред војском. Силом крста, он задоби славну победу над бројно надмоћним непријатељем. Максенције се удави у реци Тибру. Одмах потом Константин изда знаменити Едикт у Милану 313. године, да престану гоњења хришћана. Победивши Византинце, он сагради диван престони град на Босфору, који се од тада прозва Константинопољ. Но пред тим Константин паде у тешку болест проказну. Жречеви и лекари саветоваху му као лек купање у крви заклане деце. Но он то одби. Тада му се јавише апостоли Петар и Павле и рекоше му да потражи епископа Силвестра који ће га излечити од страшне болести. Епископ га поучи вери хришћанској и крсти, и проказа ишчезе са тела царевог. Када наста раздор у цркви због смутљивог јеретика Арија, цар сазва I васељенски сабор у Никеји 325. године, где се јерес осуди, а Православље утврди. Света Јелена, благочестива мајка царева, ревноваше много за веру Христову. Она посети Јерусалим и пронађе Часни Крст Господњи, и сазида на Голготи цркву Васкрсења и још многе друге цркве по Светој Земљи. У својој осамдесетој години представи се ова света жена Господу 327. године. А цар Константин наџиви своју мајку за десет година и упокоји се у својој шездесет петој години у граду Никомидији. Тело његово би сахрањено у цркви Светих Апостола у Цариграду.

СИЛАЗАК СВЕТОГ ДУХА НА АПОСТОЛЕ - ДУХОВИ

Кад се наврши педесет дана (по Васкрсењу Христовом) , бијаху сви апостоли једнодушно на окупу. И уједанпут настаде шум са неба као хујање силнога вјетра, и напуни сав дом гдје они сјеђаху; И показаше им се раздијељени језици као огњени, и сиђе по један на свакога од њих. И испунише се сви Духа Светога и стадоше говорити другим језицима, као што им Дух даваше да казују. А у Јерусалиму борављаху Јудејци, људи побожни из свакога народа који је под небом. Па кад настаде ова хука, скупи се народ, и смете се; јер сваки од њих слушаше гдје они говоре његовим језиком. И дивљаху се и чуђаху се томе што сви чују сваки свој језик у коме су се родили: слушају проповјед о величанственим дјелима Божијим? Једни се дивљаху , а други се подсмијеваху и говораху: Напили су се слаткога вина. А Петар и једанаесторица проповједаше Јудејцима и свима који бораве у Јерусалиму: Исуса Назарећанина, човјека од Бога потврђена међу нама силама и чудесима и знацима које учини Бог, а који рукама безаконика би убијен. ''Овога Исуса васкрсе Бог, чему смо сви ми свједоци. Десницом, дакле, Божијом вазнесе се, и примивши од Оца обећање Светога Духа, изли оно што је рекао пророк Јоил: говори Господ, излићу од Духа мојега на свако тијело, и прорицаће синови ваши и кћери ваше'' Окупљени рекоше Петру и осталим апостолима: Шта да учинимо, људи браћо? А Петар им рече: Покајте се, и да се крсти сваки од вас у име Исуса Христа за опроштење гријехова; и примићете дар Светога Духа. Тада они који радо примише ријеч његову крстише се , а њих би око три хиљаде душа. Тако је у Јерусалиму формирана прва Црквена општина.

Благословен си Христе Боже наш, који си дао премудре ловце (апостоле) пославши им Духа Светога, и тиме освојио цео свет, човекољупче, слава Ти!

Свети Вартоломеј апостол

Један од дванаест великих апостола. По свему изгледа, да је Вартоломеј и Натанаил једно исто лице. Удружен са апостолом Филипом и сестром Филиповом, девицом Маријамом - а за неко време и са светим Јованом Богословом - проповедао Јеванђеље најпре по Азији, потом у Индији и, најзад, у Јерменији, где је и скончао мученички. У Јерапољу ови свети апостоли молитвом умртвили су велику змију, коју су назнабошци у храму држали и обожавали. У истом том граду молитвом су дали вид Стахију, који је четрдесет година био слеп. Ту се дигне на њих светина, те и Филипа и Вартоломеја распну на крст (Вартоломеја наопако). Утом се догоди земљотрес, од кога погину зле судије и многи народ. Осетивши то као казну Божју, многи притрче да скину апостоле с крстова, но Филип беше већ издахнуо, док Вартоломеј беше још у животу. После тога Вартоломеј оде у Индију, где је проповедао и на индијском језику Јеванђеље Матејево превео. Затим пређе у Јерменију, где исцели кћер цареву од лудила. Но завидљиви брат царев Астијаг ухвати Божјег апостола и распне на крст, па му онда кожу одера и најзад главу посече у Албанопољу Јерменском. Тело његово хришћани чесно сахранише у оловни сандук. Како се над моштима његовим дешаваху многа чудеса, незнабошци узму сандук и баце у море. Но вода донесе сандук до острва Липарских, где га епископ Агатон, по откровењу у сну, дочека и сахрани у храму. Свети Вартоломеј јавио се у цркви преподобном Јосифу Песмописцу, одевен у беле ризе, и благословио га Јеванђељем, да би могао певати песме духовне: "Нека с језика твога потеку воде небесне мудрости!" Још се јавио и цару Анастасију (491-518) и рекао му, да ће му чувати новосазидани град Дари. Доцније су мошти овог великог апостола преношене у Беневент па у Рим. Над њима су се дешавала велика и страшна чудеса.

Свети Варнава апостол

Један од Седамдесеторице. Рођен на Кипру од богатих родитеља из племена Левијева и учио се заједно са Савлом код Гамалила. Звао се најпре Јосиф, но апостоли су га прозвали Варнавом, Сином Утехе, пошто је умео ванредно да теши људске душе. По обраћању Савловом он је овога први увео међу апостоле; а потом с Павлом и Марком проповедао Јеванђеље у Антиохији и по другим местима. Пострадао на острву Кипру од Јевреја, и био сахрањен Марком за западним вратима града Саламине са Јеванђељем Матејевим на прсима, које је он својом руком био преписао. Његов гроб је остао непознат неколико векова, но како су многи добијали исцељење од болести на том месту, то се оно прозвало "место здравља". У време цара Зинона и Халкидонског сабора апостол се јави архиепископу кипарском Антиму, и то трипут у три ноћи, и објави му свој гроб. То јављање апостола догодило се баш у оно време, када је властољубиви патријарх антиохијски Петар тражио да Кипарска црква буде под влашћу Антиохијског престола. Но после Варнаве, би установљено, да Кипарска црква као апостолска буде занавек самостална. Тако је постала аутокефалија Кипарске цркве.

СВЕТИ МУЧЕНИК ЛАЗАР, ЦАР СРПСКИ

Свети мученик цар Лазар један је од српских великаша који су владали српским царством послије цара Душана Силног. Послије смрти цара Уроша, патријарх Јефрем је, тадашњег кнеза Лазара, крунисао за српског цара. Лазар је слао изасланство у Цариград са монахом Исаијом и молио да се скине анатема са српског народа. Саградио је многе цркве, а најпознатије су Раваница и Лазарица. Обновио је Хиландар и Горњак, а био је ктитор руског манастира Пантелејмона.
Лазар је стално ратовао са тадашњом моћном турском силом, али је, 28. јуна 1389. на Косову, српска војска изгубила битку, а свети мученик Лазар је погинуо. Тијело му је сахрањено у његовој задужбини Раваници код Ћуприје. Када је почела сеоба Срба, народ је носио са собом и његове свете мошти и склонио их у манастир Раваницу на Фрушкој гори. За вријеме Другог свјетског рата, 1942. године, његово тијело пренијето је у Београд, гдје је почивало у миру Саборне цркве све до 1989. године када је враћено у манастир Раваницу.
Тропар св. муч. Лазару – (глас 3.)
Зажелевши красоту славе Божије, у земаљском си благоугодио Њему, и уручени Ти таланат, добрим трудом удвостручио јеси. Њега ради боривши се до крви, и отуд и плату за муке своје, као мученик примио си од Христа Бога. Њега моли да спасе прослављаче твоје Лазаре.

Feast of Holy Pentecost

Introduction
The Feast of Holy Pentecost is celebrated each year on the fiftieth day after the Great and Holy Feast of Pascha (Easter) and ten days after the Feast of the Ascension of Christ. The Feast is always celebrated on a Sunday.
The Feast commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost, a feast of the Jewish tradition. It also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the baptism of the thousands who on that day believed in the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. The Feast is also seen as the culmination of the revelation of the Holy Trinity.
Biblical Story
The story of Pentecost is found in the book of The Acts of the Apostles. In Chapter two we are told that the Apostles of our Lord were gathered together in one place. Suddenly, a sound came from heaven like a rushing wind, filling the entire house where they were sitting. Then, tongues of fire appeared, and one sat upon each one of Apostles. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as directed by the Spirit (Acts 2:1-4).
This miraculous event occurred on the Jewish Feast of Pentecost, celebrated by the Jews on the fiftieth day after the Passover as the culmination of the Feast of Weeks (Exodus 34:22; Deuteronomy 16:10). The Feast of Weeks began on the third day after the Passover with the presentation of the first harvest sheaves to God, and it concluded on Pentecost with the offering of two loaves of unleavened bread, representing the first products of the harvest (Leviticus 23:17-20; Deuteronomy 16:9-10).
Since the Jewish Feast of Pentecost was a great pilgrimage feast, many people from throughout the Roman Empire were gathered in Jerusalem on this day. When the people in Jerusalem heard the sound, they came together and heard their own languages being spoken by the Apostles (Acts 2:5-6). The people were amazed, knowing that some of those speaking were Galileans, and not men who would normally speak many different languages. They wondered what this meant, and some even thought the Apostles were drunk (Acts 2:7-13).
Peter, hearing these remarks, stood up and addressed the crowd. He preached to the people regarding the Old Testament prophecies about the coming of the Holy Spirit. He spoke about Jesus Christ and His death and glorious Resurrection. Great conviction fell upon the people, and they asked the Apostles, "What shall we do?" Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38-39).
The Bible records that on that day about three thousand were baptized. Following, the book of Acts states that the newly baptized continued daily to hear the teaching of the Apostles, as the early Christians met together for fellowship, the breaking of bread, and for prayer. Many wonderful signs and miracles were done through the Apostles, and the Lord added to the Church daily those who were being saved (Acts 2:42-47).

St. John-Vladimir, martyr and ruler of Serbia (1015)
Commemorated on May 22/June 4
The Holy Martyr John-Vladimir, a Serbian prince, was born in the X Century. From his childhood he was raised in piety, and at maturity he wisely governed his holdings Illyria and Dalmatia, preserving in purity the holy faith. The noble prince was married to Kosara, a daughter of the Bulgarian tsar Samuel. Summoned under pretense of talks with the Bulgarian tsar John-Vladislav, he was treacherously murdered by him on 22 May 1015, at the entrance to a church. The pious spouse of the holy prince, Kosara, withdrew into a women's monastery that she built, and where also she died, to the very end of her life not quitting the church. The relics of the holy prince are situated near Elbosan.

Hieromartyr Ioannicus, metropolitan of Montenegro and Littoral (1941)
Commemorated on June 4/June 17
Metropolitan Joanikije (baptismal name Jovan), the son of Spiro and Marija (maiden name Damjanovic) was born in Stoliva in the bay of Boka Kotorska, on February 16, 1880. He completed primary school in Prcanj, Grammar school in Kotor, Orthodox Theological Institute in Zadar, and the Philosophical Faculty in Belgrade. He also passed an exam for the professorship of theological subjects.
Jovan was ordained deacon on November 8 and hieromonk on November 10, 1912, by Rt. Rev. Vladimir, Bishop of Boka Kotorska and Dubrovnik. In the period 1912-1918 he was a chaplain in Kotor, and afterwards a parish priest in Lastva. From 1919 to 1925 he performed the job of assistant professor in the Grammar School on Cetinje, and afterwards in Lower-grade Female School, Female Teachers School, and the Cetinje Seminary. From 1925 to 1940, he was a professor in the First Male Grammar School in Belgrade.
Being a widower, he was elected Auxiliary Bishop of Budimlje in the end of 1939. He took monastic vows and the name Joanikije in the Rakovica Monastery, Skopje, Metropolitan Josif then serving. Joanikije was ordained bishop on February 11, 1940 in the Belgrade Cathedral. That same year, on December 10, he was elected the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral at an extraordinary session of the Holy Assembly of Bishops.
Metropolitan Joanikije managed the Diocese of Montenegro and the Littoral in a very difficult period. By his efforts, the Cetinje Seminary functioned and existed even in the hardest times of war. On July 20, 1942, he said to his priests: "to avoid any kind of political engagement and to take care of their duties and dignity". Due to arresting and persecuting of his clergymen, he tried to leave the country together with seventy priests. Unfortunately, he did not succeed; all of them were captured near Zidani Most. The priests were shot, and Metropolitan Joanikije was taken to Arandjelovac, where the Communists viciously killed him. The site of his remains is still unknown.
At the regular session of the Holy Assembly of Bishops in 1999, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral was canonized and his name was entered into the List of Names of the Serbian Church Saints.

Molyvdoskepasti Monastery


Molyvdoskepasti (means "Led-covered") Monastery one of the oldest and most important monasteries in Greece. It lies about 20km to the northwest of Konitsa, about 300 metres from the Greek-Albanian borders.
Molyvdoskepasti  Monastery is the oldest monastery in Epirus, founded in 670 a.d by Emperor Konstantinos 4th , Pogonatos, it was for centuries a very important cultural and religious center. The monastery has been renovated following the local, stone architecture but according to tradition, it used to be covered with lead (molivdos in Greek) and thus, the name Molivdospepasti! This is something the friendly monks will definitely mention; they will be delighted to guide you around the monastery revealing facts and history.  The narrow asphalted road beyond the monastery, leading to Molivdospepasto and Pogonisko, departs from the river and cutting through the valley, it then splits; to the left towards Pagonisko (3km), to the right towards Molivdoskepasto (1,5km).

Monastery of the Temptation


The Monastery of the Temptation (Greek: Μοναστήρι του Πειρασμού, Arabic: دير القرنطل‎Deir al-Quruntal) is a Greek Orthodox monastery located along a cliff overlooking the Palestinian city of Jericho and the Jordan Valley. It is built upon the summit of the Mount of Temptation, rising 350 meters above sea level.
The earliest monastery was constructed by the Byzantines in the 6th century CE above the cave traditionally said to be that where Jesus spent forty days and forty nights fasting and meditating during the temptation of Satan, about three kilometers northwest of Jericho. The monastery receives its name from the mountain which the early Christians referred to as the "Mount of the Temptation". The Monastery of the Temptation was identified by Augusta Helena of Constantinople as one of the "holy sites" in her pilgrimage in 326 CE
Palestine, including Jericho, was conquered by the Arabs under the Islamic Caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab in the 630s and following centuries of Muslim rule, the monastery deteriorated. When the Crusaders invaded the area in 1099, they built two churches on the site: one in a cave half way up the cliff and the second one on the summit.They referred to the site as "Mons Quarantana" (from Quaranta meaning forty, the number of days in the Gospel account of Jesus's fast).
Eventually, after the Muslims reconquered Palestine, the churches disappeared. The land upon which the modern monastery was built was purchased by the Greek Orthodox Church in 1874. In 1895, the monastery was constructed around a crude cave chapel that marks the stone where Jesus sat during his fast.
Three Greek monks currently dwell in the monastery and guide visitors to the site.

New Valamo Monastery


New Valamo or New Valaam (Finnish: Uusi Valamo) is an Orthodox monastery in Heinävesi, Finland. The monastery was established in 1940, when some 190 monks from Valaam Monastery in Karelia were evacuated from their old abode on a group of islands in Lake Laatokka (Ladoga) to Eastern Finland.
After a temporary dwelling place the monks decided to settle down in Heinävesi in Eastern Finland. The choice fell on a mansion in Papinniemi, Heinävesi, after the monks had found there, quite surprisingly, an icon of St. Sergius and St. Herman, the founders of Valaam (Valamo) monastery in the 12th century. The monks considered this to be a sign from God.
Having received evacuees from the Konevsky (Konevitsa) and Pechenga (Petsamo) monasteries, it is now the only monastery for men of the Finnish Orthodox Church. The Finnish Orthodox Church has also a monastery for women, Lintula Holy Trinity Convent, which is situated 18 kilometres (11 mi) from New Valamo, in Palokki, Heinävesi.
