Драга браћо и сестре,

Протекла два мјесеца била су радна и на духовном и на градитељском пољу. С Божијом помоћи ријешили смо проблем крова, а захваљујући посебно вриједним сестрама унутрашњост олтара и читаве цркве још више је уређена. Ако Бог да, да заједничким снагама у што скоријем року завршимо предвиђене радове за ову годину: санацију пода у цркви, ограде и помоћне зграде у порти.

У мјесецу јуну прославили смо празник Вазнесења Господњег када се Господ Исус Христос пред ученицима својим вазнео на Небо. Сутрадан по овом празнику обиљежили смо празник светог цара Константина и његове мајке свете царице Јелене, гдје се присјетисмо њиховог благочестивoг живота али и историског догађаја проналаска Часног Животворног крста на коме је био распет Спаситељ. Јуни 12, је био нарочито свечан у нашој цркви када смо на дан Тројица служили молитву Господу, а у наставку сви заједно учествовали у молитвама које се читају у овај дан. Још увијек се сјећамо одличног програма која је на сам дан извела наша новооснована Етно група која дјелује у склопу хора. Такође у задњој недељи јуна одржан је програм поводом Видовдана, сјећање на св. мученика Лазара и косовских јунака-мученика, свих ратника, као и свих оних који страдаше бранећи вјеру и отечество, који животе дадоше за крст часни и слободну златну. Вјечан им спомен.

Предходног мјесеца, јула, свакако да најважнији догађај јесте био прослава Црквене Славе. Нашу Славу обиљежили смо онако како је Богу угодно, и што би наш народ рекао домаћински. Црквена Слава на неки начин нас још више зближава једне с другима, пошто је храм највећа светиња за нас православне у једном мјесту и заједнички духовни храм и огњиште свих вјерника тог мјеста. Напоменућу да је велики гријех не отићи тог дана својој цркви, уколико се за то нема заиста оправдан разлог. Ове године поред великог присуства наших вјерника, велику радост је нам уприличена долазком Његовог Преосвештенства Владике Митрофана, наше браће свештеника из осталих сестринских цркви, а поготово Гринзбора и Шарлота. Они су својим доласком показали искрену братску и сестринску љубав и пријатељство према нама и на нам је да се одазовемо њиховом позиву које су нам они већ најавили. Да тако испунимо ријечи св. Писма: (Ко има пријатеља, ваља да поступа пријатељски, јер има пријатеља вјернијих од братa¦ (Прич.18,24). Не заборавимо да Слава има интеграциони значај у развоју српскох народа, чување његове етничке свијести и других обиљежија који га повезују у одређену цјелину, у посебну етничку, историјску и друштвену заједницу. Зато наша црквена Слава која нас све скупа обједињује има огроман значај за српску заједницу у дијаспори па тако и нас саме овдје у Атланти. На крају би цитирао ријечи народног пјевача: "Славу славили, никад је незаборавили, увијек срећно и весело налазили једног другог помињали, ове године славили како могли и умели а догодине како од срца пожели".

Dear Brothers and Sisters, 

Over the past two months we have been working on the spiritual and the construction fields. With God's help we repaired the roof, and, thanks to an effort of our hardworking sisters, we improved decoration of the altar and church interior. God wiling, we will join forces and, as soon as possible, complete the work planned for this year: repair of the church floor, fencing and ancillary buildings in the churchyard. 

In June we celebrated the feast of the Ascension of the Lord when the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven in front of his disciples. The day after we celebrated this holiday feast of Saints Constantine and his mother, the holy Empress Helena, through commemoration of their pious life as well as historical events related to discovery of the Holy Cross to which Savior was crucified. 

June 12th  – Trojice, was particularly solemn in our church, as we performed a holy service to the Lord, followed by everybody present participating in the prayers that are read on this day. We still remember the excellent program that was performed by our, newly established, Ethno group that operates within the church choir. Furthermore, in the last week of June we held a commemorative program, dedicated to celebration of Vidovdan and to the memory of martyr St. Lazarus of Kosovo as well as all hero-martyr warriors, and all those who gave their lives in the name of the Holy Cross and golden freedom while defending their faith and their fatherland.  Let them be remembered for the time to come.

During the previous month of July, the most important event was the celebration of the Church slava. We celebrated our Slava as it was pleasing to God, and as our people would say, in accordance with our domestic tradition.  Church slava.  in a way, brings us even closer together, since the Church is the most sacred place for us, believers in Orthodox religion, place where we share a spiritual temple and light spiritual fires in the hearths of all the faithful present. Also please remember that it is a great sin not to go on that day to the church, in particular without a really good reason. This year, in addition to the presence of the large group of our faithful brothers and sisters, we were truly happy to see the arrival of His Grace Bishop Mitrofan, accompanied by our brother priests and their parishoner from other sister churches: Jacksonville, Orlando, Hermitage, Greensboro and Charlotte. Through taking time and great effort to come to Atlanta, they expressed a sincere brotherly and sisterly love and friendship to all of us.  In return, we accepted their invitation to join them in celebrations which they have already announced. To fulfill the words of St..Scripture: "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother." (Poverbs:18, 24). Do not forget that the Slava is very important for integration in the development of the Serbian people, in particular for maintaining their ethnic identity and all other characteristics that link it to through entire, in particular ethnic, historical and social community. That is why our church Slava, that unites us all, is of great importance for the Serbian community in the Diaspora, including our own here in Atlanta. At the end of the quoted words of a folk singer, "celebrated glory, never forgotten, always happy and cheerfully, founding one and mentioning the other, this year celebrating according to means and in the next year fulfilling wishes of their hearts."

Message from the President of the Executive Board of
Sts. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, Milana Vujic Saulnier

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

It was our great pleasure and honor to have His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrofan visit us to celebrate the glory of our Church Slava of Sts. Apostles Peter and Paul in Atlanta. He was satisfied with what our church has achieved to date. However, he expressed his desire for us to work together and in the near future, through contributions to the building fund, build a new church in the Serbian- Byzantine style in which we can continue to gather and worship. By giving to the church building fund we will be able to pass on our Serbian Orthodox traditions to our children.

On September 25, 2011, Circle of Serbian Sisters will celebrate their Slava, The Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, in our church immediately after the Divine Liturgy. The Kolo will prepare a festive luncheon; all parishioners are invited to join in this celebration.

The president of the Circle of Serbian Sisters, Professor Jovanka Loncaric, sent an invitation to the Bishop and to the president of the Circle of Serbian Sisters of the Eastern Diocese in Pennsylvania, Mrs. Millie Radovick and Vice-president Mrs. Diana Baskot to be our guests at the Slava celebration. We hope that they will be able to attend and be our honored guests.

On October 29, 2011, we will celebrate our 18th church anniversary at the Dorothy Benson Center beginning at 7:00 PM in the evening. More detailed information will be provided in the near future.

Free classes to learn Serbian for adults and children will begin in the second week of September. Maria Mandic will teach this class and will provide the necessary books. People that wish to join this group, please call Milana at 770 514-9991.

Драга браћо и сестре,

Била нам је указана велика част када нас је посетио Његово Преосвештенство Владика др. Митрофан приликом прославе наше црквене славе Светих Апостола Петра и Павлa. Био је задовољан оним што смо постигли али је изразио жељу да заједничким прилозима у скорој будућности саградимо цркву која приличи нашоj вери и традицији, цркву у српско -византијском стилу, у којој ће српски народ наставити да се окупља.

Дајући прилог у фонд за изградњу цркве омогући ћемо нашем подмладку да се окупља и настави традицију српске заједнице у Атланти. Надам се да ћемо заједничким прилозима успети да остваримо ову жељу свих нас.

25. септембра 2011 г. Коло српских сестара прославиће своју крсну славу, рођење Пресвете Богородице, у нашоj цркви, одмах после Свете Литургије. Коло ће припремити свечани ручак и позивају се сви парохијани да се придруже овој свечаности. Председница Кола, професорка Јованка Лончарић послала је позивнице Владици као и председници Савеза Кола српских сестара из Пенсилваније, госпођи Мили Радовић и потпредседници Диани Баскoт.

29. октобра 2011 прославићемо осамнаест година постојања наше цркве у Дороти Бенсон центру са почетком у седам увече, a детаљне информације ће бити ускоро објављене.

Слава храма Светих апостола Петра и Павла у Атланти (Џорџија) Свечано и молитвено је почела прослава Крсне Славе храма Светих апостола Петра и Павла у Атланти. У суботу 16. јула, Вечерње богослужење су одржали гости: Протојереј Драган Зарић, протонамесник Милован Катанић, и домаћин храма, јереј, Отац Миладин. У недељу је свету архијерејску Литургију служило је Његово Преосвештенство Владика Господин Митрофан, уз саслужење свештеника: Протојереја Драгана Зарића, протонамесника Милована Катанића и Љубише Брњоша, јереја Станислава Крављаче и домаћина храма, оца Миладина. Црквени хор, под управом проф. гђе Данке Вечерине одговарао је на јектеније. Светој тајни Причешћа приступило је доста дечице као и одраслих парохијана. Обред сечења славског колача и освећења жита извршио је Владика Митрофан. Кумови су били уважена породица Saulnier- Вујић: председница црквеног одбора гђа Милана, супруг гдин Том, мајка гђа Јованка, кћи Кристина и син Стефан. Почаствовани су благословом Његовог Преосвештенства и лепим жељама за здравље и леп живот у миру и слози. Црква је била испуњена народом, сви су били раздрагани и радосни због присуства драгих гостију који су нам увеличали Крсну Славу и то из Пенсилваније, Флориде, а нарочито из Северне Карoлиине, одакле нам је Отац Драган Зарић, довео четрдесеторо наше браће и сестара и дивне младиће и девојке, чланове фолклорне групе, у чијим смо народним играма сви уживали. Захвални смо им за незабораван доживљај и сусрет.

За време ручка који су припремиле чланице Кола српских сестара, чланови црквеног одбора и парохијани, народу су се обратили: Његово Преосвештенство Владика г. др. Митрофан, који је изразио задовољство због присуства верника у великом броју, а такође је пожелео и дао поуку како би требало да наставимо са прилозима фонду за изградњу храма, новог и пространијег за поколења која долазе. Трудићемо се, то је и наша жеља.

Домаћин цркве, Отац Миладин поздравио је долазак Владике међу нас, изразио је радост свих верника и жељу да нас и даље често посећује, као и сва наша браћа и сестре који су тог дана били са нама. Позвао је све да наставе лепо дружење. Председница Кола српских сестара, поздравила је, такође, присуство Владике, господина Митрофана, који је од првих дана окупљања српског народа и оснивања српске цркве био њен брижни неимар и то је остао до данашњих дана. Изразила је велико задовољство због присуства протонамесника Милована Катанића који је био први парох у ново основаној српској православној цркви св. Апостола Петра и Павла. Остао нам је у најлепшој успомени, као и његова супруга Татјана. Отац Миладин је предао захвалнице парохијанима који су својим добровољним радом и прилозима несебично помагали своју парохију, а то су: Вера Watkins, Зоран Стаменковић, Перо Топић, Момир Мршић и Црквени хор из Атланте.

Уз нескривено задовoљство свих присутних прославаљање наше Славе наставило се до у касне послеподневне часове, уз жељу и одлучност да своју веру и традицију чврсто чувамо и наше пријатељство са суседним сестринским парохијама још више проширујемо и унапређујемо.

CELEBRATION OF STS. PETER AND PAUL CHURCH SLAVA IN ATLANTA

Atlanta, GA - This year’s celebration for the Slava began with evening Vespers on Saturday July 16th served by visiting clergy.  On Sunday July 17th, His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrophan presided at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy along with V. Rev. Dragan Zaric, Rev. Milovan Katanic, Rev. Ljubisa Brnjos, Rev. Stanislav Kravljaca and our parish priest Rev. Miladin Blagojevic. The Church Choir, under the direction of Professor Ms. Danka Vecerina, responded to the Litany. During the service many children and parishioners partook the Holy Sacrament of Communion.

Kumovi for this year’s Slava were Milana Vujic Saulnier –President of the Church Board; husband Tom, mother Jovanka Vujic, daughter Christina and son Stefan. They are long time active honorable members of the Atlanta church.

After the Blessing of the Slavaski Kolach and Koljivo ,His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrophan wished Kumovi good health and life in peace and harmony.

The Church was filled to abundance with joyful people. The Folklore group of young girls and boys from North Carolina performed traditional Serbian Kolo Dances and sang several beautiful folk songs, bringing the traditions and the spirit of the Old Country alive proving that traditions can be safeguarded no matter where the Serbian people reside. The festivities continued with several lovely greetings from the visiting clergy as well as our Rev. Miladin Blagojevic.

During the lunch which was prepared by the Kolo of Serbian Sisters and the Church Board, His Grace, greeted all in attendance and was pleased to see the large number of faithful on this very special day. During his greeting he pointed out the need for a new and bigger church in our growing Serbian community in Atlanta and encouraged all parishioners to continue to support in reaching this achievable goal.

Our parish priest, Rev. Miladin Blagojevic, welcomed the arrival of His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrophan, visiting clergy and all brothers and sisters for being with us for our Church Slava. He urged everyone to continue their good fellowship and support of our church and establishment of our community.

President of the Church Board, Milana Vujic Saulnier, gave an inspiring speech and asked parents to raise their children in the Orthodox Church and to continue to celebrate their Serbian tradition whenever possible and read the Bible to their children teaching them the Orthodox way.

President of the Kolo of Serbian Sisters, Jovanka Loncaric, welcomed the presence of His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrophan and thanked him for supporting our church from the very beginning of our establishment in 1993. She expressed great pleasure that Rev. Milovan Katanic, who was the first priest of the Atlanta church, came to visit us and the good memories of his time spent in Atlanta.

Rev. Miladin Blagojevic presented special awards and honored the following parishioners for their dedicated work and continuing help to our church in Atlanta:

The festivities continued into the late afternoon and everybody was pleased to see that yet another year has passed and our parish is still continuing to flourish making our Serbian presence known in this part of the country.

На празник Вазнесења Γосподњег, Спасовдан, Отац Миладин је одржао св. Литургију, са почетком у 9 сати ујутро.

3. јуна
На дан посвећен Св. Цару Константину и Царици Јелени, Отац Миладин је служио св. Литургију, са почетком у 9 сати ујутро.

4. јуна
У 6 сати после подне Отац Миладин је служио Вечерње.

11. јуна
На дан Духовских задушница Отац Миладин је служио св. Литургију и одржао опело за покојнике породица наших парохијана, који то желели. Дугујемо захвалност нашем свештенику који нам омогућава да сви ми, који нисмо у могућности да упалимо воштанице на гробовима својих покојника, чинимо то, овде у нашој цркви, уз његове и наше молитве.

12. јуна
Послеодржане св. Литургије и поучне проповеди Оца Миладина, Црквени хор под управом проф. Данке Вечерине и Симе Тесле извео је веома успешан концерт световних народних мелодија. Посебно успешно је отпевана песма српских војника из Првог светског рата, "Тамо далеко" која је одушевила све присутне многобројне парохијане који су бурним аплаузом поздравили извођаче и пожелели још таквих сусрета. После концерта у организацији чланова хора и захваљујући сакупљеним добровољним прилозима, сервиран је пригодан и укусан ручак. Коло српских сестара је потом одржало своју редовну седницу на којој су донете следеће одлуке, а у договору са оцем Миладином и Црквеним одбором: Прослава Видовдана, уз пригодни програм одржаће се у недељу 26. јуна после служења св. Литургије. Под водитељством председнице Кола српских сестара Јованке Лончарић и диригента хора учествоваће: Марија Лацмановић, Милош Црнчевић, Слађана Цвијетић Хрњак, Никола Стојкић, Томислав Сурла, Михајло Благојевић и Марко Петровић. Коло ће припремити посни ручак.

16. јуна
Отац Миладин, председница Црквеног одбора Милана Саулниер, председница Кола српских сестара Јованка Лончарић, и председник Наџорниг Одбора Јованка Вујић, посетили су породицу нашег парохијана Слободана Симића, који је трагичном смрћу изгубио своју младу супругу, а 2-огодишњи син Игор и 5-огодишња кћи Милина, мајку. Речи утехе не помажу много у таквим трагичним догађајима али подршка и саосећања су неопходни да би се издржала тешка искушења у животу и уз помоћ пријатеља корачало даље. Предате су му понуде и новчана помоћ његових парохијана.

26. јуна
Програм за прославу Видовдана, изведен је после служења св. Литургије. Обновљена су сећања на историју борбе српског народа за слободу, у времену од преко 6 векова, тј. од доласка Турака на Балкан и јединственом преносу делова историје српског народа усменим путе уз гусле и народне песме, са покољења на покољење, па све до данашњих дана, свих битака и војних историјских догађаја. У програму су казиване песме "Косовка девојка", песме Милана Ракића, познатог српског песника, из његовог циклуса посвећеног Косову: "На Γазиместану"", "Божур"", "Јефимија", "Симонида"; стихови Јованке Јанковић Лончарић, "Косово данас"; стихови Бранка Ћопића "Трагом славних предака"; запис Владимира Станимировића на споменику у Сан Матијасу, на Крфу српским војницима палим у Првом светском рату; песму "Тамо далеко", отпевао је хор наше цркве уз пратњу свих учесника програма. Песму је припремио и уједно дириговао хором наш уважени парохијан Симо Тесла. У извођењу програма учествовали су: Марија Лацмановић, Милош Црнчевић, Слађана Цвијетић Хрњак, Никола Стојкић, Томислав Сурла, Михајло Благојевић и Марко Петровић. Водитељ програма Јованка Јанковић Лончарић захваљује свим наведенима, на веома успешном остварењу сећања на Видовдан.

28. јуна
Отац Миладин је служио св. Литургију и 15/28. јуна када је пре 622. године, 1389. године одржана Косовска битка; Отац Миладин је одржао опело свим Косовским јунацима и свим војницима и мученицима који су пали за слободу на бранику отаџбине, све до 21-ог века.

У току месеца јуна Коло српских сестара остало је без своје драге сестре Ванде Радовић, која се упокојила за време свог гостовања код рођака у Новом Саду. Њеном сину Милисаву, снаји Маји и унуци Ванди као и свима нама који смо је знали и познавали нека Свевишњи подари вечни мир и утеху да је растанак само физички и привремен. Остаје нам Ванда у најлепшем сећању као вољена, племенита мајка, свекрва и бака, срећна што је живела у складној породици, честита и одана својој православној вери, својим пријатељима и добрим људима. Наше воштанице нека јој осветљавају пут у вечност на родној груди, а овде ћемо јој на дрвету сећања, у холу нашега храма убележити име.

Душмани сада, крстове нам руше
спаљују цркве, огњишта и школе
децу и старце у збегове гоне
на српској земљи Срба више нема.

Сад туђин влада силом и терором
ал' правда ипак победити мора
свануће зора после тамне ноћи
уз помоћ Божију, слобода ће доћи.

И пружићемо руке помирења
за живот миран у раду и слози,
вратиће се народ на огњишта своја,
у домове драге својих прадедова.

Косовски бој

На Видовдан 15/28. јуна 1389. године, одржана је Косовска битка између Срба и Турака. Турци су дошли из Мале Азије на позив Византије да јој помогну у борби против Кантакузена, и 1371. године зашли су на Балканско полуострво и напали српску земљу. Била је прва битка на реци Марици. Српска војска Мрњнавчевића и Лазара Хребељановића била је организованија и многобројнија али су се Турци послужили лукавством и ноћу прешли реку Марицу и напали Србе - уследио је прави покољ. У масакру на Марици погинули су краљ Вукашин и деспот Угљеша Мрњавчевић. Потом су Турци упадали поново 1381. године у земље кнеза Лазара Хребељановића али су их кнежеви, властелини Цреп и Витомир потпуно разбили. 1386. године. дошли су Турци до Топлице под вођством султана Мурата, кнез Лазар их је дочекао код Плочника и до ногу потукао. Султан Мурат од тада смишља освету, сакупља војску и судара се са српском војском на Косову пољу, на Видовдан 1389. године. Срби су се јуначки борили против надмоћније силе. Погинула су оба владара, српски кнез Лазар и турски султан Мурат, кога је мачем усмртио велики српски јунак Милош Обилић. Срби су у почетку побеђивали - у Паризу су црквена звона већ поздрављала победу Срба хришћана над Турцима, али после Муратове погибије његов син Бајазит је увео нове снаге у бој и турска војска је однела победу. Историчари су касније доказивали да је исход Косовске битке био нерешен и да су се остаци обе војске повукли са бојишта, али је једно сигурно да Срби више нису имали резерве. Наступило је време вазалства и ропства. Велико српско царство створено за време цара Душана је пропало. У народним песмама опевани су сви догађаји у 3 циклуса: прет-косовски, косовски и после-косовски циклус. Преношене су песма и приче српском народу с'колена на колено уз гусле и причу. На Косову је после битке почео да цвета косовски божур, по народном веровању, црвени из крви српских јунака, а плави божур из крви турских бојника.

Косовка девојка, која је видала рањенике после битке је претеча хумане међународне организације Црвеног Крста. Вук Караџић је сакупљао и бележио народне песме. Народ и дан- данас пали воштанице на Видовдан и моли се Свевишњем за душе српских јунака који су дали своје животе, све до дана данашњег за слободу своје родне груде и мир међу свим народима света. Нак? им је вечна слава и хвала и за незаборав!

Chronicle of events for June of 2011

2nd June
On the feast of the God’s Ascension - Ascension Day, Father Miladin served Divine Liturgy, beginning at 9 am.

3rd June
On a day dedicated to St. Emperor Constantine and Empress Helena, Father Miladin served Divine Liturgy, beginning at 9 am.

4th June
At 6 o'clock in the afternoon Father Miladin served Evening Service.

11th June
On a Holy Spirit Holiday, Father Miladin served Divine Liturgy and a memorial service for deceased members of our parishioners’ families. We owe our gratitude to the priest who enabled all of us who were not able to light candles at the graves of their deceased, to do so here in our church, accompanies with his and our prayers.

12th June
Following the Divine Liturgy and instructive sermon served by Father Miladin, Church Choir, under the direction of prof. Danke Vecerina and Simo Tesla, performed a very successful concert of secular folk melodies. Particularly successful was a song about Serbian soldiers from the First World War, "Far Away" which has delighted all those present. Many parishioners welcomed the performers with applause and wished for more such meetings and concerts Following the concert, members of the choir served an appropriate and tasty lunch, coming from voluntary contributions and donations of choir members. Afterwards, Circle of Serbian Sisters held its regular meeting and, in consultation with and support from Father Miladin made the following decisions: Celebration of St. Vitus, a special program will be held on Sunday 26th June after Divine Liturgy. Under the guidance of the President of the Circle of Serbian Sisters Jovanka Loncaric and a Choir Director, following members of Circle will participate: Mary Lacmanovic, Milos Crncevic, Sladjana Cvijetic Hrnjak, Nikola Stojkic, T. Surla, Mihajlo Petrovic Marko Blagojevic and. Members of Circle will prepare fasting lunch.

Father Miladin, president of the Church Board of Milan Saulnier, president of the Circle of Serbian Sisters Jovanka Loncaric, and Chairman of the Board Jovanka Vujic, visited the family of our parish Slobodan Simic, who mourned the tragic death of his young wife, while his 2-year-old son, Igor, and 5-year old Milina mourned passing on of their mother. Words of comfort do not help much in such tragic events, but support and compassion are essential to withstand serious challenges in life and to, with help of friends, continue moving forward in life. Slobodan was provided with a moral and monetary support from his fellow parishioners.

26th June
The program for the celebration of St. Vitus, was carried out after serving Divine Liturgy, rewnewing memories of the history of Serbian people fighting for freedom, and a time of over six centuries ago when Turks arrived into the Balkans, while reminding all present on a tradition of a unique transfer from generation to generation of history of the Serbian people, through folk songs accompanied with a music from gusle, reminding everybody on all military battles and historical events. The program consisted of song "Maiden of Kosovo," Milan Rakic ??songs, famous Serbian poet, from his cycle dedicated to Kosovo, as well as famous poems " On the Gazimestan"," Peony "," "Jefimija", "Simonida"; verses of our own Jovanka Jankovic Loncaric, "Kosovo Today "; verses of Branko Copic" Tracing glorious ancestors "; Vladimir Stanimirovic’s note written at the memorial in San Matias, on Corfu, dedicated to the Serbian soldiers fallen in World War I, the song" Far Away ", sang by the church choir, accompanied by all of the program participants. Our esteemed parishioner Simo Tesla arranged the song and conducted the choir. Other program participants were: Mary Lacmanovic, Milos Crncevic, Sladjana Cvijetic Hrnjak, Nikola Stojkic, Tomislav Surla, Mihajlo Blagojevic and Marko Petrovic. Program conductor, Jovanka Jankovic Loncaric, is thankful to all program participants for a very successful realization of festivities dedicated to the memory of St. Vitus.

Father Miladin served Divine Liturgy and a memorial service dedicated to all Kosovo heroes, soldiers and martyrs who died during the Battle for Kosovo, protecting freedom of people and borders of their homeland, 622 years ago, on June 15/28, 1389.
During the month of June, Circle of Serbian Sisters lost their beloved sister Vanda Radovic, who passed away during a visits with relatives in Novi Sad. Let the Almighty grant eternal peace and comfort to her son Milisav, daughter-in-law Maja and granddaughter Vanda and all of us who knew and was familiar with Vanda, that separation is only physical and temporary. We will always remember Vanda as a loving, noble mother, and grandmother-in-law, happy that she lived in a harmonious family, honest and faithful to their Orthodox faith, friends and good people. Our candles illuminate the road to let her into eternity on native soil, and her name will be written on a tree of remembrance, in the lobby of our church.

to live and work in peace and harmony,
and people will return to the hearth,

Battle of Kosovo

On St. Vitus Day, on June15/28. 1389 year, there was a Battle of Kosovo between Serbs and Turks. Turks came from Asia Minor, invited by Byzantium’s call her help in the fight against Kantakuzen, and in 1371. penetrated into the Balkan Peninsula and attacked the Serbian land. During the first battle, on the River Marica, Serbian army of Mrnjnavcevica and Lazarus Hrebeljanovic was better organized and more numerous, but the Turks performed sneaky attack and during the night crossed the river Marica and attacked the Serbs , what followed was a real carnage of Serbs. During the massacre on Marica King Vukasin and Despot Uglješa Mrnjavcevic were killed. Afterwards, Turks invaded again in 1381. Attacking the land of Lazar Hrebeljanovic but they were defeated by nobles Crep and Vitomir. In 1386. Turks, led by Sultan Murat, came to Toplice where Prince Lazar intersected their advancement and defeated them. Ever since the defeat, Sultan Murat was plotting the revenge. He collected an army and fought with the Serbian army at Kosovo Plains on St. Vitus Day of 1389. Serbs have fought heroically against superior forces. Both rulers were killed, Serbian Prince Lazar and Ottoman Sultan Murat. Murat was killed with the sword by the great Serbian hero Milos Obilic. Serbs were winning in the beginning - in Paris, church bells announced the victory of Christians over the Turks, but after the Murat’s death, his son Bajazit introduced new forces into the battle and the Turkish army claimed victory. Although historians have subsequently argued that the outcome of the Battle of Kosovo was uncertain, and that remnants of both armies withdrew from the battlefield, it became apparent that the Serbs did not have enough reserves to continue fighting. Afterwards occurred time of vassalage and slavery. Great Serbian Empire, created during Tsar Dusan’s rule was lost. Folk songs described all those events in three cycles: pre-Kosovo, Kosovo, and Aftermath of Kosovo. Songs and stories, accompanied with a music from gusle, were passed from generation to generation of the Serbian people. Following the Kosovo battle, based on the popular belief, In the Kosovo plains where the battles raged, peony flowers started growing - the red ones from the blood of Serbian heroes, and the blue ones from the blood of the Turkish soldiers.

Young Kosovo girl, who was healing wounded soldiers after the battle was a predecessor of the International Organization of the Red Cross. Vuk Karadzic collected and wrote down folk songs. To this day Serbian people light candles on St. Vitus holiday, and pray to the Almighty for the souls of the Serbian heroes who gave their lives to this day for the freedom of his homeland and peace among all peoples. Let there be an eternal peace and oblivion to the heroes of the Kosovo Battle!

Субота, 2. јули Почели су радови на оправци црквеног крова. Купљен је материјал новчаним средствима која су обезбеђена добровољним прилозима парохијана, а радове су добровољним петодневним радом успешно обавили Момчило Мршић, Милан и Томислав Сурла и Антун Антуновић, којима се захваљујемо на труду и залагању. 

Недеља, 3. јули После свете Литургије коју је служио Отац Миладин, у пратњи црквеног хора којим је дириговала Вида Бурнс, одржани су договори Црквеног Сабора и Кола Српских сестара о дочеку гостију ио организовању прославе и ручка на Петровдан, крсне славе наше цркве св.Апостола Петра и Павла. Договорено је да се чланови Црквеног одбора побрину о набавци пића и печења, а Коло Српских сестара ће припремити све остало: варива, салате, хлеб, воће и колаче, кафу.Предвиђено је присуство Његовог преосвештенства господина доктора Владике Митрофана, седам свештеника и око 40-ак гостију, са фолклорном групом из С. Каролине, као и велики број наших парохијана. 

Недеља, 10. јули Отац Миладин је одржао 40-одневни помен упокојеној госпођи Вери Бараћ Вујић, мајци нашег уваженог парохијана г-дина Владимира Вујића. Њен лик и животни пут вредне, племените и одане кћери српске православне вере и српског народа, осветлила су председница Кола Српских сестара Јованка Лончарић (на српском) и њена кћерка Анђела Кеслер (на енглеском језику). Полсе помена породица Вујић (син Владимир, снаја Радина, унуци Иван и Анђела) припремила је подушје за све присутне. 

Субота, 16. јули У 6 сати после подне служена је вечерња служба Божија. Поред Оца Миладина, чинодејствовали су гости: протопрезбитер Милован Катанић и протонамесник Драган Зарић. Послужена је вечера члановима фолклорне групе и гостима ие С. Каролине, као и свештеницима из Флориде. 

Недеља, 17. јули Свечану архијерејску св.Литургију, служило је Његово преосвештенство Владика Митрофан, уз асистенцију седам свештеника и уе пратњу црквеног хора којим је дириговала проф.Данка Вечерина и уз присуство око 130 парохијана. После св. Литургије и причешћа многобројних верника, фолклорна група из Цхарлоттесвилле-а одиграла је, уз овације сплет српских народних игара, а потом је послужен ручак. У дивном расположењу госте су поздравили: отац Миладин, славска кума и председница Црквеног одбора Милана Саулниер Вујић, и председница Кола Српских сестара Јованка Лончарић. Његово преосвештенство Владика Митрофан је одржао лепо, поучну беседу и препоруку за изградњу новог црквеног храма, са обзиром на величину града и бројност парохијана који живе на територији Атланте. 

Субота, 23. јули Отац Миладин, попадија г-ђа Бранка Благојевић и г-дин Милисав Радовић са осам полазника наше црквене школе, отпутовали су еа Схатерланд и учествовали у седмодневном летњем кампу, који сваког лета организује Источно-америчка парохија Српске православне цркве. 

Недеља, 31. јули Отац Миладин је одржао 40-одневни помен мајци г-дина Милисава Радовића, Ванди Радовић, чланици Кола Српских сестара, у присуству породице сина, снаје и унука, као и њених поштовалаца.Сећање на племенити лик упокојене Ванде осветлила је преседници Кола, Јованка Лончарић. 

У току месеца Јула извршени су многобројни радови: замењени су дотрајали олуци око црквене зграде, промењене су плоче на таваници, стављене су нове завесе на све прозоре у згради. Донатор за завесе и таваницу је г-ђа Вера Ваткинс Васиљевић. Радове на олуцима и таваници су иевршили Момчило Мршић, Милан и Томислав Сурла, Антун Антуновић и Ненад Гамбирожа.Црквене просторије су после наведених радова, очистили: Пера Сурла, Вера Ваткинс Васиљевић, Љиља Братић - хвала им.

Chronicle of events July 2011.

Saturday, July 2: We started to work on the church roof repairs. The funds for the purchase of the materials were secured by voluntary contributions of our parishioners, and this was a successful voluntary, five-day operation. Mr. Momcilo Mrsic, Mr. Milan and Tomislav Surla, as well as Mr. Antun Antunovic, donated their time and skills to make all these repairs. We thank them for their hard work and dedication.

Sunday, July 3: After the Divine Liturgy, served by Fr. Miladin and accompanied by the church choir with Mrs. Vida Burns conducting, the Parish held meetings of the Church Council and the Circle of Serbian Sisters, regarding the celebration of our Church Slava, Sts. Apostles Peter and Paul. On this meetings, we made arrangements about welcoming guests and organizing the celebration with lunch, for the St. Peter and Paul's Holiday. It has been agreed that the council members take care of purchasing drinks and meat, while the Circle of Serbian Sisters prepare everything else (vegetables, salads, bread, fruit, pastries and coffee). We anticipated the presence of His Grace Bishop Mitrofan, seven priests from other parishes, about 40-odd guests, with a folk-dancing group from South Carolina, as well as a large number of our parishioners.

Sunday, July 10: Fr. Miladin held a 40-day Parastos Service for late Mrs. Vera Barac Vujic, mother of our respected parishioner Mr. Vladimir Vujic. Mrs. Jovanka Loncaric, president of the Circle of Serbian Sisters, shed light on the late Mrs. Barac-Vujic character and life and pointed out how she was a valuable, precious and devoted daughter of the Serbian Orthodox religion and the Serbian people. Mrs. Loncaric's daughter, Mrs. Angel Kessler, translated this speech to English. After the Parastos, Vujic family (Vladimir- son, daughter-in-law Radina and grandchildren of the late Mrs. Vujic, Ivan and Angela) prepared and served a memorial meal for the parishioners.

Saturday, July 16: At 6 o'clock in the afternoon, our special guest, Rev. Fr. Milovan Katanic officiated in the Vespers service, along with Fr. Miladin and Fr. Dragan Zaric. Dinner was served to the members of the dance groups and other guests from S. Carolina and Florida.

Sunday, July 17: His Grace Bishop Mitrofan officiated in the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, along with seven priests. Responses during the Liturgy were sang by our church choir, conducted by Mrs. Danka Vecerina. There were about 130 parishioners and guests present, at this Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in honor of Sts. Peter and Paul. Many faithful received Holy Communion during this service and His Grace Bishop Mitrofan gave a lovely, instructive sermon, with recommendation for this parish to build a new church temple, having in mind the size and number of parishioners who live in the territory of Atlanta. After the Divine Liturgy, a folk group from Charlottesville performed several beautiful Serbian folk dances and songs and then the lunch was served. In such wonderful atmosphere, Fr. Miladin and this year's Kumovi of the St. Peter and Paul Parish, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Saulnier welcomed our guests. Mrs. Milana Vujic Saulnier also welcomed guests as the president of the Parish Council. At the end, the president of the Circle of Serbian Sisters, Mrs. Jovanka Loncaric gave a inspiring welcome speech as well.

Saturday, July 23: Fr Miladin, Popadija Mrs. Branka Blagojevic and Mr. Milisav Radovic, along with eight students of our church school, traveled to Shadeland, PA and participated in a week-long summer camp for the Eastern American Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Sunday, July 31: Fr. Miladin gave a 40-day Parastos for the repose of the soul of our late parishioner, Mrs.Vanda Radovic, mother of Mr. Milisav Radovic. Also present at this memorial were Mrs. Maja Radovic, daughter-in-law and Ms. Vanda Radovic, granddaughter, along with many members of the Circle of Serbian Sisters and other parish friends. Mrs. Jovanka Loncaric, president of Sts. Peter and Paul Circle of Serbian Sisters, shed light on the noble character and life of late Mrs. Vanda. Memory Eternal!

During the month of July we carried out numerous projects on the church property such as replacing the worn out gutters around the church building, changed the panels on the ceiling, put the new curtains on all windows in the building. Mrs. Vera Watkins Vasiljevic donated the new curtains, as well as the ceiling material and we thank her for her contribution. We also give our thanks to Mr. Momcilo Mrsic, Mr. Milan and Tomislav Surla, Mr. Anthon Antunovic and Mr. Nenad Gambiroža for their work on gutters and ceiling repairs. Finally, we would like to thank Mrs. Pera Surla, Mrs. Vera Watkins Vasiljevic and Liljana Bratic who cleaned the church premises, after all these projects.

Blessed Matrona of Moscow

On any bright summer morning or dark midwinter dawn, the gates to the Monastery of the Protection of the Mother of God in the Taganskaya district of Moscow open early to admit a crowd of pilgrims waiting to venerate the relics of one of Russia’s newest canonized saints, Blessed Matrona of Moscow. By mid-morning, the numbers have swelled to 200–300, and on weekends and feast days, to three times that number. Standing in line to venerate an icon of St. Matrona hung on the wall outside of the church can take two to three hours; the line to venerate her relics is even longer. Who is this remarkable woman, and how has she captured the hearts of Russians everywhere?

Blessed Matrona of Moscow
Blessed Matrona was born in 1881 into a poor family in the village of Sebino-Epifaniskaya in the Tula region. Blind from birth, her eyes lacking pupils, she bore this infirmity with humility and patience, and God, in his turn, made her an elect vessel of grace. At the moment of her baptism, the priest saw a light cloud above the child, which shed forth a sweet fragrance as a sign of divine favor. From the age of six or seven, she exhibited an extraordinary gift of insight, discerning sicknesses of soul and body in the many people who visited her, revealing to them their secret sins and their problems, and healing them through prayer and wise counsel. At about the age of fourteen, she made a pilgrimage to the great holy places in Russia in company with a devout benefactress. When they arrived at Kronstadt to receive the blessing of St. John, while they were lost in the crowd, St. John suddenly cried out: “Matrona, come here!” and he added “She will be my heir and will become the eighth pillar of Russia”. At that moment, no one understood the meaning of this prophecy.
When she reached the age of seventeen, she was seized with paralysis and was unable to walk from then on. Knowing that this was God’s will, she never bemoaned her state but thanked the Lord. For the rest of her days – over fifty years- she lived in a room filled with icons, sitting cross legged on her bed. With a radiant face and a quite voice, she received all who came to seek divine consolation through her presence. She foretold the great misfortunes that were to sweep down upon the country after the Bolshevik revolution, placing her gift of insight at the service of the people of God.
Saint Matrona led the ascetic life on her bed of pain. She fasted constantly, slept little, her head resting on her chest, and her forehead was dented by the innumerable sings of the Cross that she made. Not only the Muscovites but also people from afar, of all ages and conditions, thronged around her to ask her advice and her prayers. In this way she truly became the support of the afflicted people, especially during the Second World War. To those who came to ask her for news of their relatives on the Front, she reassured some and counselled others to hold memorial services. She spoke some directly, and to others in parables, having in view their spiritual edification and recommending them to keep the Church’s laws, to marry in church and to go to Confession and Communion. When the sick and possessed were brought to her, she placed her hands on their heads, saying several prayers or drove the demon out with authority, always insisting that she was doing nothing of herself but that God was healing by her mediation. When asked why the Church was undergoing such great persecution, she replied that it was because of the sins of the Christians and their lack of faith. “All the peoples who have turned away from God have disappeared from off the face of the earth, “she affirmed. “Difficult times are our lot, but we Christians must choose the Cross. Christ has placed us on His sleigh and he will take us where He will.”
Having foretold the day of her death, she gave instructions for her obsequies. Before falling asleep in peace on 2 May/19 April 1052, she cried out: “Come close, all of you, and tell me of your troubles as though I were alive! I’ll see you, I’ll hear you, and I’ll come to your aid.” Miracles were multiplied at her tomb and , ever since her translation to the women’s monastery of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God (13 March 1998), the faithful who, in their thousands, queue to venerate Moscow’s new protectress, turn to her icon and bring her their various problems as though the Saint were alive in front of them.
